Fire Prevention Week 2014

October 5th through October 11th is Fire Prevention Week, presented by the NFPA. This years theme is “Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives”. Almost 60% of home fire deaths are the result of fires in homes with no working smoke alarms.

Working smoke alarms reduce the risk of dying in home fires by half.

An ionization smoke alarm is generally more responsive to flaming fires and a photoelectric smoke alarm is generally more responsive to smoldering fires. For the best protection, or where extra time is needed, to awaken or assist others, both types of alarms, or combination ionization and photoelectric alarms are recommended.

Make sure you stop by our Open House on October 18th for a demonstration between these 2 alarms.

2014 Annual Open House

This year Fire Prevention Week is October 5- 11 and the theme is Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives. Station 28 will be holding our annual Open House on Saturday October 18th from 11am – 4pm. This event will focus on smoke alarms, but we will also have games and gifts for kids, food, and our members will be available to answer any other questions you may have.

Bring the entire family down for some fun and education, and don’t forget to visit our neighbors at the Canal Fest taking place on Market St.

Fire Rescue International 2014

Members of station 28 are attending Fire Rescue International in Dallas, TX. Our members are participating in various levels of the Officer Development Program from Company Officer to Chief Officer. The extended commitment these members have given of themselves, will allow them to better serve the residents and transients of Fire District #1. These members have acknowledged that training never ends, and FRI provides some of the best continuing education available.

Annual Village-Wide Yard Sale

Once again the Millstone Valley Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will be sponsoring the Village Yard Sale. The 2 day event will take place on June 7th and June 8th Rain or Shine. We encourage you to register early at the discounted fee of $10 ($20 the day of).

Easter Flower Sale & Egg Hunt

Stop in on April 18th from 8am until 6pm or April 19th from 9am until 2pm for our Annual East Flower Sale. We will have an assortment of flowers ranging in price from $5 to $30.

Then join us for an Easter Egg Hunt on April 19th at Noon. There will be separate groups based on age, so don’t hesitate to bring both the little and big kids.

James Fair Memorial Information

Update: We are making our final preparations for April 5th and we still need your help. Please respond if you will be attending, and if you have any media that you would like to share please contact us so we can incorporate them. We really look forward to spending a day of celebration with everyone that James has touched.

We will celebrating James’ life on April 5th. The services will start at 2pm at the United Methodist Church on Elm St in East Millstone. Immediately following the services, we will reconvene at Millstone Valley Fire Department for Food, Drinks, and Memories. All are welcome, but in an attempt to prepare for the day, we ask that you RSVP through this page to better provide us a head count. Please pass this information along to whoever may enjoy this day of celebration and remembrance.

20th Annual Trick Tray

Please help us make our 20th Annual Tricky Tray a success by joining us on April 6th. The doors open at 1:30 pm with an admission fee of only $4. Fish Fry

Join us on Friday March 21st for a Fish Fry Buffet. We will have several types of fish, soup, baked Mac & Cheese, vegetables, and chicken nuggets for the kids. We will also have a few specialty items, but they may go fast, so get here early.

Change your clock, Change your batteries

It’s that time of year again. Now that many of us have clocks that automatically change with Daylight Savings Time it is extremely important to not forget about changing your detector batteries. Even if your detectors are hard wired, there is still a battery inside as a backup just in case we lose power, like during Sandy. You must change your batteries at least annually, and if your detectors are not hard wired, at least semi-annually. Please don’t wait until the detector starts to beep at 3am, change the batteries now.

Also don’t forget to check your dates, smoke detectors are good for 10 years and Carbon Monoxide detectors are good for 5 years. There should be a date sticker on the back, don’t go by when you purchased it or bought your home. If you need assistance in changing your batteries please call the firehouse, NOT 911. We will be happy to assist you in checking your alarms, replacing your batteries, or answering any questions you may have.

Valentine Rose Sale

UPDATE:
Due to the weather we will not be setting up a tent this year. We will be selling the roses from inside the building. We will be there from 7am-7pm on Thursday and Friday, despite the snow! Please use extra caution if you must travel Thursday morning, but if you are out, stop in and get your Valentine something nice.

It’s that special time of year again, it’s time to show those special people in your life that you really care about them. Stop by the firehouse on Thursday or Friday 2/13 – 2/14 between 7am-7pm. We will have roses for $12 a dozen and other assorted candies and gifts for $2-$5. Get yours early, since we have been advised that quantities may be limited due to the weather.
